2nd Season in Spartan South Midland Div 1

Moulton FC visited Winslow FC in the Spartan South Midlands Division 1 play-off semi-final with the hosts the form team going into the end of season lottery. That form proved to be pivotal as the Magpies struggled to cope with a big tough side and with a large home support unfortunately went down to a heavy 5-1 defeat bringing down the curtain on a second league season at step 6 of the FA National League system. At this stage I could have done my normal match report but tbh that would just highlight how the home side dominated large parts of the game, but thought it may be more poignant to look at the season as a whole rather than reflect on this one game, a game incidentally that came at the end of a ridiculous run of 9 matches in 23 days, 8 of which were away from Brunting Rd, a tough ask for management and players at Premier League level let alone ours where we have to juggle full time work and family commitments as well as carrying injuries and suffering fatigue. Everyone involved this season has exceeded expectations, our goal at the start was to improve on last season’s 9th place in the league and have a cup run and that has been achieved. A 4thplace league finish the highest the club has ever finished in its 128 year history, a fantastic Spartan League Division 1 KO Cup win against Sileby Rangers which also entailed 3 away ties to reach the final as well including a win against runaway league winners O N Chenecks and a second NFA Junior Cup final in 2 seasons when we defend the trophy against Heyford Athletic on Saturday 11th May at Wellingborough Town FC. Added to that was a first ever foray in to the FA Vase sadly falling at the first hurdle there but that will be a competition we can look forward to on a regular basis and hopefully fingers crossed entry into the FA Cup as well next season. In total a marathon season again of 51 matches (including the final still to come) 31 wins 8 draws and 11 defeats tells its own story and as I said previously a fantastic achievement by Management , Players and Back room staff and let’s hope we can finish it in style a week on Saturday, please come over to the Dog and Duck I am sure the lads would appreciate your support.
