Match report U18 v Harborough Town U18 (Champions of Champions Final)

Champions of the South, Moulton U18s, faced Champions of the North, Harborough Town, in a thrilling Champions Final — and it certainly lived up to expectations.

Moulton started the game on the front foot, immediately putting Harborough under intense pressure with some high-tempo, attacking football.

After 15–20 minutes, Moulton’s dominance finally paid off when Louie Kelly was brought down in the box, earning a penalty. Toby Sainsbury stepped up calmly and converted to give Moulton a deserved 1-0 lead.

Harborough worked hard to get back into the game, but Moulton remained firmly in control. Their second goal soon followed, with Jamil Yusuf finishing off an excellent team move to make it 2-0. At that stage, it looked like Moulton might run away with the game.

Credit to Harborough Town though — with their first real attack of the match, they caught Moulton on the break and pulled one back to make it 2-1.

Moulton responded immediately. Toby Sainsbury delivered a dangerous ball into the box and Louie Kelly bravely headed home while colliding with the Harborough goalkeeper, restoring the two-goal advantage at 3-1.

However, Harborough suddenly found their rhythm in the final five minutes of the first half and scored to bring the score back to 3-2 going into half-time.

The second half began with Harborough on top, and their right winger caused Moulton all sorts of problems. He eventually got his reward by scoring the equaliser, and Harborough continued to dominate for the next 15–20 minutes while Moulton temporarily lost their rhythm.

A few substitutions and renewed energy helped Moulton regain control of the game, although Harborough still looked dangerous on the counterattack.

The breakthrough came when Man of the Match Munir Amour powered home a fantastic header from a superb Jude Goodacre cross to put Moulton back in front at 4-3.

Then, with only minutes remaining, Mo Kahn broke through calmly and slotted home to seal a memorable 5-3 victory for Moulton.

It was an unbelievable game played at a very high standard by both teams — a true credit to the quality of the league.
