Young Magpies bow out in League Cup Semi Final

Young Magpies bow out in League Cup Semi Final

Richard Eason21 Apr - 05:52

Wellingborough Scholars 3–1 Moulton U18s

A physical and hard-fought semi-final saw Wellingborough Scholars come out on top in a game where clear chances were limited.

Moulton found it difficult to get into their rhythm early on, with Wellingborough playing a direct style and asking plenty of questions. The breakthrough came after a defensive slip allowed Wellingborough to take a 1–0 lead.

Despite the setback, Moulton showed glimpses of quality and came closest to equalising in the first half when they struck the crossbar. Both goalkeepers were called into action, with Moulton’s keeper producing an excellent save to keep the score down, while Wellingborough’s stopper also made an important save to maintain their advantage going into the break at 1–0.

Moulton started the second half on the front foot, showing more intent, and eventually got their reward when Jude Goodacre converted a well-taken free kick to make it 1–1.

However, the game quickly swung back in Wellingborough’s favour as they responded with an excellent free kick of their own to retake the lead. Another defensive mistake proved costly, allowing Wellingborough to add a third and put the tie beyond reach.

It was a competitive and physical encounter throughout, but Wellingborough proved more clinical on the night and progressed to the final.

Moulton Man of the Match:

Mo Kahn (sponsored by Ady Downing Plumbing & Heating) for his relentless work rate and energy across the pitch.

Best of luck to Wellingborough in the final
