Moulton U18s 3–1 Rushden & Diamonds U18s
Playing under the lights on a brand-new 4G surface at Wollaston School, both sides enjoyed excellent facilities for what turned out to be a competitive encounter.
The first half was a fairly even contest, with Moulton perhaps edging the play slightly. Clear chances were limited, with only a couple of half-opportunities created. Moulton were occasionally guilty of going long and forcing passes rather than building their play with patience.
The second half began in a similar, slightly lethargic fashion. However, against the run of play Rushden took the lead to make it 1–0.
The goal sparked Moulton into life and the response was immediate. Just a couple of minutes later, substitute Hugo Neve equalised to bring Moulton level. Neve then went on to produce a fantastic second-half performance, bringing energy and quality that helped shift the momentum firmly in Moulton’s favour.
From that point the visitors began to turn the screw and started to play with far more confidence. The pressure soon paid off when captain Jamie Fuller finished well to give Moulton a deserved 2–1 lead.
A slight tactical tweak in shape helped Moulton take control of the game. Fuller was again involved, turning neatly before threading a superb pass through to Adam Dicks, who beat two defenders and calmly slotted home Moulton’s third and final goal.
A dominant final half hour saw Moulton manage the game well and come through a tough night with an impressive performance.
Man of the Match was a difficult decision. Several players stood out during Moulton’s strong final 30 minutes, but the award went to Adam Dicks (sponsored by Sabin Carpentry) for his standout display. Close behind were George Steers, who was excellent in the second half, Hugo Neve for his fantastic impact after coming on, and Matty Wardell, who delivered a solid performance throughout
