Well, a turning point after having lost our first league game of the season last week. We lost our place on top of the league, albeit we had games in hand. Plus we reached 2 cup semi finals, although we lost the County Cup semi to Kettering.
After a good warm up we took to the muddy pitch with rain and very strong winds to contend with as well as a determined Crick team who had 5 subs.
We started fast with a team that looked well balanced and took the lead after only 3 minutes when Kirsty made a run down the left and hit a hard left footed cross past the far post where Jade came steaming in to finish well for 1-0.
Soon after Sim and Chelsea linked for Chelsea to score the first of her nap hand for the day.
On 6 minutes, Alexa cleverly mishit her shot which found Jade in at the far post again to score her second for 3-0. Almost immediately after this Jade managed to hit the post. It would have been her first hat trick but she would have many second half chances to seal this!
30 minutes and Sim linked with Lydia who finished well for 4-0. Lydia replaced Jade who had been stunning for the first 30 minutes and was given a rest to gird her loins ready for 2nd half where she would surely complete her hat trick.
43 minutes and Lydia made a good run down the right and crossed for Sim to bury it for 5-0.
Just before half time Sim fed Chelsea through the middle and she opened her body and curled the ball into the far corner for 6-0 at half time.
After 2 minutes of the 2nd half Alexa sent Chelsea away and she again opened herself to curl the ball past the keeper for Moulton’s seventh.
49 minutes and a free kick just outside the box was taken by Alexa who smashed the ball against a defender and into the top corner for 8-0.
65 minutes and after Chelsea had been smashed in the back the ball fell for Lydia who calmly scored her second for 9-0.
On 70 minutes surely Jade would score her hat trick, first she leant back on a chance and scored an England rugby conversion and next with the goal at her mercy she again hit the post from point blank range. Having played so well she deserved a hat trick but maybe next week!
A corner on the right on 70 minutes, was taken by Alexa who curled in a vicious kick with her left foot and scored direct for 10-0.
Another corner on the right on 79 minutes was hit firmly in by Alexa and Chelsea scored with a novel part of her body which I have been told not to mention. 11-0.
A good corner on the right was taken by Jess and it caused chaos in the defence before popping up for Chelsea to nod into the top corner to complete the scoring at 12-0.
This took our goal difference in the league to past the 100 mark.
In difficult conditions the whole squad worked tirelessly and played some great football against a committed Crick team.
Special mention to Beth and Becky who kept us solid at the back, Chelsea for scoring 5 goals. Jade and Lydia who caused chaos in the Crick defence with their running. Alexa and Jess for driving the team on from midfield. Harley is settling in and looked composed at left back. Kirsty and Molly were rested after taking knocks, having both done well in the first half. Lucy looked strong when she came on for the second half after her recent broken foot. Sim worked her socks off and showed great ‘composure’ at times to set up several chances for Jade and others. Also poor Meg who had little to do and must have been frozen. Georgia ensured that she got muddied in the warm up.
Thank you to the hardened supporters who stood on the touchline to support the ladies, although it was rumoured that one supporter took to his car for the second half!
I thought my weather forecast had been accurate but this was disputed by Emma who thought it was colder that I had said. We now have a new Carol!
Well done Ladies and onwards next week at OWs against Rothwell.
