Warm up took place with strong winds, hail, snow and rain. Plus it was really cold.
The match started in sunshine but still with a cold wind.
Moulton took control of the match from the off and attacked at will with the full backs Molly and Harley attacking down the flanks.
However most of the match our attackers managed to hit the keeper at will rather than pass the ball low into the corners. To be fair the Rothwell keeper played really well.
It took us till the 9th minute to score. Alexa , down the right, played a brilliant ball across field to find Jess who collected and calmly beat the keeper for 1-0.
Soon after a flowing move down the left saw Sim free in the inside left channel and she crossed to Alexa who slotted home for 2-0 Moulton.
23 minutes and Jade linked with Sim down the right and Sim beat her marker and crossed for Chelsea to score her first, 3-0.
Moulton won a corner on the left after 29 minutes and Jess played a glorious cross on to the head of Chelsea, who powered the ball into the corner of the net, 4-0.
On 40 minutes Kirsty took a corner on the left and the ball broke to Lauren who had skied forward from defence. Lauren played the ball forward and Jess, with her back to goal, played a cheeky back heel into the net for 5-0. Another classic Jess finish.
Just before half time, Sim controlled the ball in the box and tried to turn but was brought down and earned a penalty. Alexa stepped up and drilled the ball into the corner for 6-0 at Half Time to Moulton.
Moulton used 4 subs for the 2nd half and although they played some decent football Rothwell compressed play and ensured their goal stayed intact.
On 65 minutes, after some scrappy play, the ball broke to Chelsea with her back to goal. Chelsea turned and hit a cracking shot and the Rothwell keeper dived and pushed the ball onto the angle of bar and post to keep the score at 6-0.
Almost immediately Hilary made a good run forward and played in Sim who coolly slotted in for 7-0.
A free kick was won some 25/30 yards out. Up stepped Alexa to curl a kick into the top left corner and complete her hat trick. 8-0.
88 minutes and Jess showed some magic on the left and crossed into the middle where Chelsea cleverly allowed the ball to hit her standing leg to score and complete her hat trick. Final score 9-0.
We need to sharpen up our finishing for next week in the League Cup semi final. However Cat had an assured game marshalling her defence to restrict Rothwell to hardly any chances.
Sim worked really hard up top and created lots of chances, Alexa and Chelsea scored hat tricks. Jess showed off lots of her skills and Kirsty was awesome in midfield although she didn’t have her shooting boots on today. Jade A created havoc as usual down the right and on any other day could have filled her boots.
Hilary looked assured in midfield when she came on. Amy V and Lauren made cameo appearances from abroad before they return to Aus and skiing respectively. Meg kept a clean sheet but developed frostbite.
Well done Ladies, a good 3 points and still top of the league.
Players of the Match
Alexa and Jess
Big downside of the match was the bad injury suffered by Lydia. She has slowly been gaining full fitness and today it appears that she may have done her other ACL. We hope it is less serious as she has fitted in really well and has been enjoying her football again.
