After only 5 minutes Moulton broke down the right where Steph won the ball and fed Georgia who put over a good cross that bounced kindly for Moulton. Shannon ran onto the ball and smashed a shot at goal which hit the keeper and rebonded back to Shannon who calmly placed her shot into the net for 1-0 Moulton.
Georgia continued to cause problems down the Moulton right and after 20 minutes she hit another cross which was knocked down and Sarah hit a first time shot over the crossbar. Another Georgia cross soon after and Steph ran onto the ball , beat the defender and smashed a shot that clipped the top of the crossbar, still 1-0 Moulton. After 42 minutes there was good interplay between Steph and Shannon which resulted in Shannon making a run and seeing her shot saved by a sprawling Diamonds keeper. Half Time 1-0 Moulton.
Jess replaced Georgie at half time on the left but playing a more central role with a three pronged attack leaving Calista a bit exposed but she coped admirably. 5 minutes of the 2nd half had gone when good passing between Jess and Steph saw the ball break to Jess who had a shot that was deflected for a corner. Next saw Steph make a surging run into the Diamonds box and as she toe ended her shot which the keeper saved, she was wiped out by a defender and the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty to Moulton. Despite shouts from the dug out, Steph insisted that Kim, the Moulton penalty taker, should take the kick to make sure of the game first. What a team player she has been all season.
Kim took the kick and she smashed the ball into the right hand corner giving the keeper no chance, 2-0 Moulton. Diamonds were getting more into the game but had very few efforts on goal and when they did, Reedy in goal dealt competently with any attempts on her goal. Approx 10 minutes later Steph made another surging run into the area. She was tackled by Diamonds keeper who was injured in the tackle but the ball bounced to Steph who shot at goal and saw the ball strike a defender's arm and the referee pointed to the spot again. With the game almost won Steph did take this penalty and again gave the keeper no chance with a firm shot into the corner, 3-0 Moulton and just 1 goal away from equal top scorer. Despite more Moulton pressure the game fizzled out with 3 more league points secured and a comfortable 2nd place assured in the league, All in all a decent season with two defeats by Brackley and 2 draws against Higham, the other 10 games were all won.
Reedy looked solid in goal with good ball handling. Defence were never in trouble and any attempts by Diamonds forwards were well defended by Cat, Jade and Calista. In midfield Kim, Antonella and Sarah worked hard as usual and controlled midfield throughout. Georgia had another good game against a fast full back who tried hard to match Georgia's pace. Georgie had a decent first half but lack of training and fitness meant she was glad of a break at half time. Shannon worked tirelessly for the team and deserved her well taken goal. Jess tried to link with Steph when she came on but Diamonds had numbers at the back in an attempt to stifle Moulton's attacks. Princess came on and showed bags of enthusiasm and planty of pace. Steph was Steph. Worked throughout to help the team gain a win without worrying about herself. She ran everywhere and was a constant thorn in the Diamonds side.
A fitting farewell for Dave and Georgia and it was pleasing to see the new Manager Michael Anglin in attendance at the game to see the players before he takes over.
All goodbyes will take place at Presentation evening 17th May 2025, 7 pm. Looks like a good turnout and they well deserve it.
