County Cup match replayed from last week

John Gilding29 Oct - 20:53

Match abandoned after referee hit his head against a player and his nose wouldn't stop bleeding.

Kingsthorpe Jets travelled the short distance to Moulton to replay the County Cup Match abandoned last Sunday. Last week's referee kindly came to the match and brought flowers for Sarah Nash who helped him and a box of chocolates for all our ladies to share, a lovely gesture and in the event his nose wasn't broken.
Match started and for 15 minutes both teams started brightly with little goalmouth incident. 30 minutes had gone when ex Moulton stalwart Lisa Porter was allowed to move forward unchallenged for the Jets. She reached 35 yards out and let rip with the ball bouncing awkwardly in front of the Moulton keeper and ending up in the net for 1-0 Jets. Moulton responded and about a minute before the interval Sophie let fly but the ball was deflected for a corner to Moulton. From the corner a goalmouth scrimmage took place and as the ball broke Millie's shot was deflected for another corner. Soon after Moulton broke down the left and found Leah in space. She took the ball in her stride and unleashed a superb shot high and hard over the keeper and into the net from about 25 yards. Referee blew for half time almost immediately. !-1 at HT was probably about right.
Moulton slowly began to get on top and after 60 minutes Chloe forced herself forward and had a shot well save only for the ball to break. Leah was onto the ball in a flash and hammered it into the goal for 2-1 Moulton. Chloe was beginning to put pressure on the Jets defenders Moulton were looking threatening. After 73 minutes Molly, on as a sub, broke and tested the keeper with the ball just missing the far post.On 76 minutes Antonella played the ball forward after a good move and Chloe raced on to the ball and hit the side netting. On 78 minutes Sarah in midfield started a good move and Sophie and Molly were involved before finding Chloe who took the ball in her stride to hammer the ball past the keeper for 3-1 Moulton. On 84 minutes another Moulton attack saw Millie involved again and Molly broke and again hit the side netting.
On 88 minutes Chelsee was involved and played through to Molly who had made a great run, she took the ball forward and smashed her shot just over the bar.
The match ended 3-1 Moulton and the 2nd half display was very encouraging. Chloe appears to have settled in and gave a battling display having come on as a sub. Molly also looked very lively and made several good runs. A bit more composure and she would have scored.
In defence Callie, Cat and Daisy were commanding. In midfield Kim and the two Sarahs worked tirelessly, Leah scored two very good goals. Millie probably had her best game to date and in fact everyone played well and thoroughly deserved the win. A few selection problems for the Manager but attending training is a key requisite in being selected for the matches.
We hope that the season has now started in earnest and results will only get better.
Player of match was Chloe, well done and well deserved.
