Ladies warm up took place in horrid wet conditions, however when the match started at 2 pm the rain had stopped and with the 3G pitch, conditions were good.
Moulton started brightly and penned Deanshanger into their own half. Straight from the kickoff Moulton pressed forward and the ball broke just outside the edge of the box and Kim met it first time and the ball rifled into the corner for 1-0 Moulton. This could be a long afternoon for Deanshanger who only fielded 11 players and no subs. Moulton on the other hand, had an incredibly strong bench.
More Moulton pressure and after a strong run from Millie the ball found Shan but her shot lacked power to trouble the keeper. Just one minute later the ball broke to Leah on the left of the area, she took a touch and powered a shot in for 2-0 Moulton. Millie was again prominent on 10 minutes, with a run and cut in and pull back, but the ball was cleared for a corner. Leah took the corner and bounced the ball off the top of Deanshanger's crossbar. On 18 minutes Sophie T was fouled on the edge of the box, she picked herself up and her shot grazed the crossbar. Just another minute later Moulton had a swift attack with the ball again falling on Leahs's left foot and another good firm shot found the back of the net for 3-0. In the 26th minute the ball was bouncing about but controlled by Sophie G who found Shannon and this time she made no mistake for 4-0 Moulton. After 31 minutes another foul on the edge of the Deanshanger box saw Sophie T again take it and this time her shot hit the wall, rebounded to Georgie who had a shot well held by the keeper. Just before half time a few substitutions were made and one of these, Wiki, tried her luck and a hard strike found the net for 5-0 at half time. The Deanshanger players were working hard but were outclassed by the Moulton team from the higher division.
It took just 4 minutes of the 2nd half for Moulton to increase their lead. The ball again broke to just outside the Deanshanger box where Antonella was under no pressure. She picked her spot and hit a hard, high shot over the keeper for Moulton's 6th. On 62 minutes Cat took a corner and the ball went across goal and Wiki reacted to the confusion and calmly slotted in her 2nd and Moulton's 7th. Numerous chances came and went before Harriet had a touch of the ball in Moulton's goal, she hit a great clearance that found Sophie T on the charge and a one on one with the keeper saw Sophie slot the ball in for 8-0. Cat, who worked incredibly hard up front all match, showed some good skills on the edge of Deanshanger's box, only to be wiped out for a free kick. Up stepped Kim, who had a super match today, to hit a hard, low shot into the corner for Moulton's 9th. On 77 minutes super sub Reedy was introduced and with her first chance the corner flag was in danger!
At this stage Georgia on the right wing was troubling Deanshanger's defence at will. From another run and pull back Cat got a touch but the ball just went wide. On 80 minutes Sophie T broke and charged through only to hit her shot wide of the post. Soon after from another Georgia run on the right, this time Shan's effort was deflected for a corner. In the 84th minute a corner from Cat beat everyone and bounced off the far post and away from danger. From the follow up the ball found Reedy and her effort was deflected for another corner. Late in the game Moulton had another free kick on the edge of the area. Shan took it and chipped it over the wall to find Reedy with her back to goal but a clever flick found the net for Moulton's 10th. Reedy makes a habit of scoring when let out of goal. Just on full time Cat made another good run along the dead ball line, pulled it back but Reedy's effort was blocked. Final result Moulton 10 Deanshanger 0.
A very good Moulton display but they were profigularate at times with their finishing. Onwards to the next round. Sophie Gates appears to be finding her fitness again after her enforced layoff and didn’t stop running all match.
Up front Millie was lively and just needs a bit of composure and goals will come. Sophie T and Cat worked tirelessly and should both have had several goals. On any other day they would have done.
Antonella played well and was able to push forward more than her normal holding role and she took her goal well. Off the bench we welcomed back from their East Midlands Premier League team, Wiki and Georgia R. They showed what we had been missing this season, Georgia with her pace and Wiki with her drive, for helping out the Ladies.
We now need to transfer this form into our league matches. We have lost so many matches by the odd goal this season and our league position doesn’t reflect the Ladies quality.
