A dry night with an 8.00 pm kick off, perfect for football.
An even start with Moulton possibly shading it. After 14 minutes Moulton had a good break with Sophie T flicking the ball over a defender and running on to it, she hit a good shot that looked a goal all the way until a very good save from Higham's keeper pushed the ball round the post for a corner. A promising start from Moulton but Higham were slowly feeling their way into the game and their number 10 looked fast and lively in breakaways. Halfway through the first half it became an even contest with few goal chances but some good play from both teams. Just before halftime, Georgia cut in from the right and slid to retrieve the ball but caught the defender who needed prolonged treatment. A forward's tackle.
On a great evening for football a crowd of over 60 was present lining the nearside touchline, Higham certainly brought a good following with them tonight. Moulton had set up with a defensive, contaning shape but looked dangerous moving forward with Sophie, Steph and Kitty looking sharp. Half Time 0-0.
10 minutes into the 2nd half and Moulton were looking lively in search of a goal. However, a quick break down the left saw a Higham player cut in and hit a powerful shot that Harriet, in Moulton's goal, dived and pushed the shot away only for Higham's number 9 to be first to the ball and hit into the net for 1-0 Higham. Moulton continued to press but Higham's defence was well organised and gave little away. Again a bit against the run of play, Higham again broke down the left and a cross found a Higham head for 2-0 Higham on 64 minutes. Moulton still looked dangerous and their best chance came from a great run and cross from the righ and with Reedy and Kitty alone in the box a goal looked on, however Kitty got to the ball first and her shot hit the keeper on the legs and was cleared away from danger. Could have been a game changer, Moulton continued to push for the elusive goal and late on won two corners which came to nothing. Higham then continued playing for time taking forever to take goal kicks etc , to be fair we would probably do the same in their position. Higham broke and had a shot over the keeper , the ball hit the far post and came back into play. A very entertaining match ended 2-0 in favour of Higham Town Ladies.
A disappointing result for Moulton but onwards to Sunday and a trip to Harpole Ladies.
Player of the Match for Moulton was Sophie Gates who along with Hayley did a good job of containing the lively Higham forwards. Also prominent were Cat and Callie. The midfield worked hard in the first half to keep the score level. Up top we worked hard but created only a few chances.
