Match started at a frantic pace and Corby won an early corner before Moulton players all linked well to create space for Steph who played the ball out to Wiki who beat her marker and put over a good cross and Steph’s effort was just past the post. There followed good play from both teams with defences holding firm. However on 18 minutes Moulton put a good move together and found Morgan on the charge and for the second time she was sent crashing to the ground in the penalty area. This time the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Kim and she coolly hit the ball hard and high into the corner for 1-0 Moulton. The lead lasted just 5 minutes when Corby’s striker found herself on the edge of the Moulton box. There appeared no danger as Moulton had 4 defenders around her. Despite this she was allowed to try a shot which seemed to lack pace but the ball somehow found its way into the goal at the far post. 1-1.
Moulton then began to take control of the game and after 40 minutes a forward ball was nodded on by Morgan to find Wiki on the charge, she checked back onto her right foot and hammered a shot that the keeper got a hand to but couldn’t keep out, 2-1 Moulton but the game was still in the balance. H.T.
Early in the 2nd half Moulton had a flowing attack involving Steph, Georgie and Alicia on the run on the right wing. Alicia then put over a lovely cross but with a a goal looking a possibility, the ball was blazed over the bar. After 51 minutes Corby broke and won a corner, the ball was good but no one seemed to want it. It bobbled about until a shot came in that Harriet caught. Just 4 minutes later Corby attacked and a super shot came in from the edge of the box but with a goal looking a certainty, Harriet flew across her goal to somehow palm the ball round for a corner. Another Corby corner on 59 minutes came over from the left, their defender got to the ball and headed just past the post. 65 minutes had gone when Moulton started a good move with Steph and Shannon with a simple ball prominent before Morgan was released on the charge . She took the shot early and smashed it into the net for 3-1 Moulton. Moulton were now playing some sparkling football and after a flowing move the ball found Step on the right. She played a gorgeous ball across the face of the goal but Moulton attackers failed to get a touch for a tap in goal. Then on 70 minutes a good Corby break with some sloppy Moulton defending saw the Corby player crash a hard shot but somehow Harriet pulled off another stunning save to push the ball away. A Corby free kick on their left side saw a shot come in that cleared the crossbar.
With just 5 minutes remaining Wiki and Morgan combined well to set Morgan in for another chance but this time her early shot just missed at the near post. With just 3 minutes remaining on the referee’s Micky Mouse watch Callie played the ball forward and Wiki and Morgan chased it in the Corby box only for a last ditch tackle to come in from a Corby defender.
With the game deep into extra stoppage time as Pluto seemed to stop the referee’s watch from going forward, Corby won a corner on the right and a good delivery was met by a Corby defender and thundered into the Moulton net for 3-2. There was still more time found for the kick off but eventually the game was brought to a close with a deserved Moulton win .
All players and subs played really well in this cracking match against Corby. The Moulton defence deserves credit for a good display the midfield worked their socks off and the forwards looked dangerous every time they broke forward. Players of the Match went to Harriet and Sophie who both had cracking games. Well done all.
