Most of the squad had returned from holidays and injury with the exception of Chloe and long term injured Georgia.
We started the game slowly against a young and sprightly Diamonds team who didn't take long to take the lead. This seemed to sting Moulton into action and they soon equalised through Steph with a good strike. Soon after this, Steph charged down a clearance and put Beth though and she finished with aplomb. 2-1 Moulton.
After a period of midfield play without much goal action, this was changed when Jade charged forward onto a through ball and lofted it over the top of the Diamonds defenders. Vikki was on to it like a shot and calmly beat the advancing keeper to make it 3-1 to Moulton at half time.
An entertaining first half with Moulton beginning to exert themselves on the game.
20 minutes of the 2nd half and little by the way of chances at either end. Then a great 1,2 between Molly and Georgia up the line saw Molly released, she got to the ball before the advancing keeper but her lob just went past the post.
After 27 minutes of the 2nd half Jade, who had looked as solid as a rock in defence, charged forward and lost possession to a ricochet which allowed the Diamonds striker to move forward and place a good shot inside the far post, 3-2 to Moulton. The goal was against the run of play but gave the Diamonds hope.
Almost immediately from the restart Diamonds pressed forward and a speculative shot smacked against Moulton's post and away to safety.
A big wake up call to Moulton. On 30 minutes Georgia broke and hit a good shot into the side netting. Then on 35 minutes a great through ball saw Vikki outpace the defence and calmly slot the ball past the onrushing keeper, 4-2 Moulton. Then Moulton poured on the pressure, a good left wing corner from Wilkki saw Stacey power a header towards the corner of the goal but a great diving save from the keeper clawed it away to safety.
Moulton then played out time for their first win of the season.
Some good performances from the defence and midfield but up front Wikki and Beth looked very accomplished and with Steph getting fitter every match this bodes well for the season.
