Moulton visited Rugby Borough last night in a Spartan South Midlands Division 1 match and welcomed back Manny Asante and JJ McCarthey, but Derrick Okoye was missing after picking up an injury last Saturday. The home side on the back of a 9 game winning league streak made the early running and had a good chance but the shot flashed across the 6 yard box and out for a goal kick. Moulton began to take control and both McCarthey and Joey Evans had chances but so did Rugby and Phillipe Mederios made a point blank save to keep the scores level. As the half ended Evans forced the home keeper into a great save tipping over a 35 yard shot and then he smothered another effort from the same player. Evans wasn't to be denied though and with a minute of the half left he put Moulton in front, Andy Hall won a ball in midfield and played him in, the Magpies top scorer turned his defender inside out, before finishing in the bottom corner. Rugby started the second half on top and had 2 or 3 good chances and some great defending by Albert Mensah and Ben Jackson helped keep the visitors slender lead intact. A flurry of activity within the space of 5 minutes sealed the victory for Moulton, firstly great work by Hall and Evans saw the latter cross for George Wingrove to finish from 10 yards. Straight from the kick off Rugby hit the crossbar from a free kick but within 4 minutes found themselves 3 down. Hall and Evans were again the architects, with McCarthy applying the finish, shooting into the bottom left hand corner with 17 minutes left on the clock. Moulton saw out the remaining time and Mederios pulled off a remarkable save in the last minute to keep a clean sheet for the Magpies. A superb all round performance which sets us up nicely for 2 tough away trips , Amersham and then Eaton Socon on the next 2 Saturdays. Final Score Rugby Borough 0 Moulton 3
