Moulton v Old Bradwell United - 14 Nov 2023

Cup (H)
Won 4-2
(H/T 0-2)
Having reached last year’s final of the Gladwich Trophy Moulton FC started this season’s competition with a home tie against Old Bradwell Utd. The visitors stunned the Magpies by taking the lead after only 2 minutes and dominated the opening part of the game as Moulton struggled to get a foothold and keeper Josh Durrant was called upon at least twice as Old Bradwell continued to dominate. The pressure did tell eventually and they double the lead after 34 minutes with a shot from outside the box after the hosts lost the ball in midfield. The home side only mustered 2 half chances towards the end of the first period through Archie Elmore and Dan White, but the visitors were well worth their interval lead.
HALF TIME MOULTON 0 OLD BRADWELL UTD 2
Justin Mensah replaced Albert Mensah for the second half and the Magpies looked more like themselves and Elmore crossed from the left but it was just too high for Chief Boateng. With 52 mins on the clock the visitors feared the worst, Elmore chased a long ball down the middle and as he got a crucial touch he was then poleaxed by the Bradwell keeper just outside the box. After consultation with the linesman the referee gave a yellow card which could so easily been a red not only for denying a goal scoring opportunity but also for a dangerously high challenge, sadly the free kick was blocked. Moulton continued to dominate however and grabbed a goal back 5 minutes later from a Josh Adams corner JOSH MELLING looped a header into the far corner. Soon after Elmore still struggling after the clash with the keeper was replaced by top scorer Nat Ansu, and Cole Mason also replaced Boateng. The Magpies by now had taken control of the game and grabbed a deserved equaliser with 15 minutes left when White rolled a through ball into the path of ANSU and he finished clinically from 20 yards, and within 2 minutes they were in front Luca Iaciofano put White in again down the right and his cross to the far post was finished clinically by ADAMS. The visitors were now rocking and after giving a free kick away on the edge of their box ANSU stepped up and fired a beauty over the wall and into the top corner to seal victory with 5 minutes laft.
