Moulton v MK Irish - 23 Jan 2024

Cup (H)
Lost 1-4
(H/T 0-3)
Moulton faced arguably their toughest game in a season and a half at step 6 level as Premier Division MK Irish came to Brunting Rd in a second round Gladwich Trophy Tie. A strong swirling wind saw both sides struggle in the opening 15 minutes and neither created any worthwhile chances but it was obvious that the visitors were an assured outfit and they moved the ball around with ease. The opening goal for MK arrived after 19 minutes when a slick move involving 5-6 players ended with a simple finish from 10 yards giving Josh Durrant in the home goal no chance.. Unfortunately Moulton pressed the self -destruction button in the space of 12 minutes, twice giving the ball away in dangerous areas and were punished both times ruthlessly by the visitors. The Magpies had a couple of half chances near the end of the 45 , first Josh Adams shot well over after good work from Aaron Dickins and Andy Hall and then Nat Ansu saw his effort saved at the base of the post by the visiting keeper.
HALF TIME MOULTON 0 MK IRISH 3
Any chance of a second half comeback by the home side were dashed within 4 minutes of the restart when they conceded a penalty and the visitors finished off the tie from the spot. To the Magpies credit they still tried to play football and from an Adams cross Dan White had a good chance but shot over, however they were rewarded after 58 minutes, Ansu worked an opening and when his shot cannoned back off a post COLE MASON was johnny on the spot to convert the rebound. Moulton were enjoying a purple patch now and Luca Iaciofano was inches away from converting an Ansu cross a few minutes later. Manager Gary Petts gave all 5 subs a run out and 2 of the blossoming U18 squad Brodie Alibone and Joel Machakaire both did well in the last 20 mins or so. With the tie won MK also made a number of changes and neither side created much after this other than Durrant making one comfortable save for the home side.
