Jnr Cup (A)
Won 5-0
(H/T 3-0)
Moulton visited Rothwell Corinthians in the last 16 of the NFA Les Underwood Junior Cup having won the competition for the last 2 seasons and with the luxury of a full squad to choose from. It was a good 10 mins before there was an effort on goal at either end but eventually Andy Hall shot wide after being set up by Dan Mortimer. Hall was again involved not long after teeing up Ben Jackson who crossed to the far post where Lewis Isom flashed a volley just over. The Magpies were beginning to look threatening and a neat 4 man move got Luca Iaciofano in but he was eased off the ball by a defender just as he was about to pull the trigger, however with 17 minutes on the clock the deadlock was broken. Francis Boateng sent a long through ball into the path of ISOM who’s initial shot was saved by the home keeper but he pounced on the rebound to put his side in front Minutes later top scorer Nat Ansu was very unlucky to not double the lead when after Iaciofano and Ivandro Monteiro set him up but after some neat footwork his eventual header lacked enough power and the keeper saved. The visitors were having the lion’s share of the possession and did double the lead on 25 mins when Ansu put IACIOFANO in behind the home defence and although the on rushing keeper drove him wide he still managed to find the net from an angle, and within 2 minutes it was 3-0 when ANSU burst through the middle in customary fashion and fired in from 18 yards. Rothwell to their credit kept plugging away but Jonny Vallance in the Magpies goal was only called into action once in the half and Moulton went in at the break well in control.
HALF TIME ROTHWELL CORINTHIANS 0 MOULTON 3
Any hope of a revival by Rothwell was dashed within a minute of the restart when Monteiro fed Isom on the left and he crossed to the far post for IACIOFANO who converted on the run for his second of the game. With 61 mins on the clock Boateng and Hall were replaced by Derek Okoye and Keiran Ashman, and a couple of minutes later Iaciofano was very unlucky to see a fierce effort go just over the angle, and that was his last contribution and he was replaced by Adam Dicks. Mouton put the icing on the cake with 15 minutes left when ISOM fired into the bottom corner after being set up by Ashman, and right at the death Jude Goodacre saw a long rang effort flash just over. An excellent all round performance by the whole team and sets us up for a quarter final tie with Blisworth in January next year.
