FA Cup (A)
Lost 1-4
(H/T 0-2)
Moulton FC made the historic trip of 110 miles up the M1 to take on Rossington Main FC from the North West Counties East Premier Division in their first ever Emirates FA Cup Tie. The hosts took the initiative early on and had a spurious penalty appeal turned down after only 90 seconds but they took the lead with 10 minutes on the clock through Paul Sherburn. The Magpies responded and 2 minutes later should have been level, Nat Ansu wriggled clear of his marker and rounded the home keeper but could only find the side netting. “Rosso” continued to dominate and Moulton’s keeper Adam North made a couple of smart saves before they added a second goal, with Cameron Hough heading in a far post corner. The visitors struggled to get any kind of foothold in the game and the only real attempt on goal was a long range effort by Lewis Isom which was turned around the post by home keeper Greaves.
HALF TIME ROSSINGTON MAIN 2 MOULTON 0
The home side continued their domination at the start of the second half and virtually killed off the game with a 3rd goal on 57 minutes with another header from a corner this time by Reece Fielding. Keiran Fitzgerald had replaced Nathan Amaning just before and he was involved in what could have been a lifeline 3 minutes after the goal, Hugo Neve won the ball in midfield and when Fitzgerald set up ANSU on the left hand side of the box he slotted past Greaves. This heralded the Magpies best spell of the game and when Fitzgerald and Ansu combined Greaves saved smartly low down and then Matty Long had a shot blocked after good work by Jude Goodacre. Despite making 5 changes Moulton couldn’t break down a resolute home defence and were caught out 3 minutes into injury time. A poor free kick on the edge of the Rossington box was charged down and a home attacker found himself clear on the Magpies goal from inside his own half, he unselfishly squared to Cody Mantle who hit the post but the ball came out straight to Dylan Mantle who finished from 10 yards. By everyone’s admission it was a poor performance by the Magpies but take nothing away from Rossington who were a very good outfit and will provide tough opposition for Newark Town in the next round.
