Moulton welcomed Pinchbeck Utd to Brunting Rd in the first round of the UCL Cup with the Magpies giving Toby Sainsbury another of the blossoming U18 side his full debut.
The youngster was straight into the action crossing from the left with a visiting defender slicing the clearance just wide of the post. The visitors had their first real chance after 15 minutes but the shot went well over.
There was a distinct lethargy in the middle part of the half with the game resembling a pre-season friendly rather the a cup tie and it took the home side 26 minutes before they created the first real chance, Sainsbury and Michael Cirelli worked a short corner on the left and from the cross Nathan Amaning headed straight at the keeper.
Shad Reza fired a free kick over from 35 yards and just before the break Pinchbeck create a decent opening for Flynn Slater but Adam North saved comfortably.
HALF TIME MOULTON 0 PINCHBECK 0
Adam Dicks replaced Sainsbury for the second half with Moulton switching to a back 3 but the game still didn’t spark into life although Brett Solkhon did have a chance but headed straight at visiting keeper Ben Martin.
Most of the real action took place in the last 10 minutes first the visitors through Slater struck the post and 3 minutes later the deadlock was finally broken when DAMIAN OSIOMOEJIOKHIAN headed in at the far post following a Lewis Isom corner.
This sparked the Magpies into life and Reza should have made it two after being set up by Ed Odley but his shot flew wide of the far post and with the game entering injury time the visitors were desperately unlucky not to equalise when North got a crucial touch to a lob by Joe Melson and the ball bobbled onto the post and back into the arms of the grateful keeper. Not a game that will live long in the memory but the Magpies now face Boston Town at home in the next round.
