FA Vase (A)
Won 1-0
(H/T 0-0)
A goal on his debut for Kobi Bivens was enough to see Moulton through to the first round proper of the Isuzu FA Vase at New Bradwell.
As well as Bivens the Magpies included Jordan Edwards on loan from Corby Town but were without Adam Dicks and Justin Mensah.
The visitors set the tone early on and twice Lachi Codrington tested Bradwell keeper Even Tolumba and Edwards followed up with a third effort which was blocked. Codrington was having a personal duel with Tolumba and twice more the big stopper foiled the Moulton wide man.
New Bradwell had their first shot on target after 14 mins which saw Adam North at full stretch to turn the shot around a post.
That was a brief respite for the home defence and when Lewis Fisher stood a cross up to the back post Terry Falcini headed over, and then following a three man move Fisher got in a header but it was straight at Tolumba.
HALF TIME NEW BRADWELL 0 MOULTON 0
The home side had the first chance of the second half when Jack Dowse got clear but he dragged his shot wide of the post, but the telling moment of the game arrived on 57 minutes, a long clearance from North was headed clear by a Bradwell defender out to BIVENS 30 yards out and he advanced before shooting goalwards and the ball bounced over the diving Tolumba into the net.
Within minutes it could have been 2-0, when Fisher sent over a wicked dipping free kick. Luke Stevens got in a great header, but Tolumba got a hand to it to push it out. Moulton made a quadruple change on 67 minutes but not long after the home side had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside, but generally it was the Magpies who had the lions share of the chances with Nat Ansu and Fisher having efforts saved by the inspired home keeper.
New Bradwell battled hard but were beaten by the better side and if early chances would have been taken the game would have been over by halftime.
Having said all that Moulton progressed to the first round proper for the second time in 2 seasons where hopefully the FA Computer might be kind and give us a deserved home tie.
