Cup (H)
List 1-3
(H/T 0-0)
Moulton surrendered their grip on the UCL KO Cup following a 3-1 home defeat against Daventry Town on a shocking afternoon for watching football.
Driving rain and gale force winds greeted the players as they entered the field with most if not all of the spectators huddled under the covered accommodation.
Despite the conditions both sides tried to play some football, and it was the visitors who had the first chance after 12 minutes, but it went wide and from the resultant goal kick the Magpies replied.
Adam North found Toby Sainsbury on the right, he played a 1-2 with Adam Dicks before crossing to the back post, Lewis Isom returned the ball back into the box, but Lachi Codrington was just over with his header.
The home side were desperately unlucky not to take the lead after 22 minutes, Sainsbury controlled a long ball before cutting inside and delivering a curling left foot cross to the back post, but Isom arriving at pace and stretching saw his shot hit the base of the post the loose ball was cleared.
Moulton continued to dominate and Luke Stevens was narrowly wide with a shot from distance and then just before the break Codrington rolled his defender but snatched at the shot which went wide, with Dicks and Isom free inside the box ready for a tap in.
HALF TIME MOULTON 0 DAVENTRY 0
The second half began more evenly and with the elements more in their favour Daventry began to have more time on the ball, but Moulton still looked dangerous and twice Damian Osoimoeijokhian got into good positions down the left, but the final ball was poor and the danger was averted.
The deadlock was finally broken after 73 minutes by substitute Michael Nketia, with the Magpies right badly exposed this gave the visitors substitute a run at Stevens from 40 yards out and he advanced into the penalty area and beat North high up from an acute angle. With Moulton pushing for an equaliser they continued to look exposed and both Nketia and Nathan Hicks spurned good chances but Daventry clinched the tie in the last minute of normal time
A throw for Moulton deep in their own half was headed forward and Josh Yeboah found himself free just inside the box and he turned and found the bottom corner, remarkably there was still time for two further goals in injury time firstly with Moulton’s shape all over the place Hicks found the top corner from 20 yards before at the other end a shot from Lewis Fisher was blocked and the loose ball was seized upon by RENATO PRIFTI who netted from 10 yards for a Moulton consolation.
For a large part of the game the Magpies looked the better side and again should have taken chances when they were created but as the game went on the positional discipline seemed to disappear and they paid a heavy price for that.
