Moulton welcomed Cranfield Utd to Brunting Rd for the first time hoping to build on last Saturdays big win over Eaton Socon. Neither side took control early on and chances for both sides were minimal and it was the visitors who had the first real effort and Filipe Mederios in the home goal was forced to tip a long range shot over the bar with 18 minutes gone, but 5 minutes later the Magpies took the lead. Josh Adams passed inside to NAT ANSU who’s first shot was blocked by the keeper but he pounced on the loose ball and rolled it inside the far post. The game was still an even affair at this point but some heroic defending by the home side led to a second goal with 35 minutes on the clock. Ben Jackson and Cole Mason both blocked shots and the ball eventually fell to Andy Hall on the edge of the home penalty area, he pinged a long range pass into the path of ANSU who ran on and rounded the keeper to double the advantage. Cranfield were still in the game however and Mederios smothered an effort as the visitors pressed and at the other end good work by Francis Boateng and Ansu put Dan Camacho in but he shot narrowly wide.
HALF TIME MOULTON 2 CRANFIELD UTD 0
Within 3 minutes of the restart Moulton put the game to bed , Hall fed Luca Iaciofano on the right and he crossed to JOSH ADAMS who converted at the far post. Three minutes later good work from Camacho and Ansu saw the latter flattened in the box but the referee ignored shouts for a penalty. Manager Gary Petts rang the changes soon after and Albert Mensah, Derek Okoye and Dan White replaced Boetang, Ansu and Dylan Weston, and with 15 minutes left the Magpies should have increased their lead. Firstly Hall crossed from the right and Iaciofano was inches wide with a far post headed and soon after Iaciofano and Camacho exchanged passes in the box but the former was narrowly wide again. As the clock ran down Tom O’Neill and Huey Johns replaced Adams and Mason and deep into injury time Cranfield grabbed an undeserved consolation to dampen proceedings slightly , however a great all round team performance full of energy, where everyone put in a shift ,sets us up nicely for next Saturday’s home game against Leighton Town Development.
