Moulton entertained lowly Letchworth Garden City and were hampered by un-availability and injuries to key players with Dan White being used as an emergency striker. Moulton pressed early on and when Andy Hall was fouled on the edge of the box he saw his shot from the resultant free kick blocked. The Magpies were struggling to break down a stubborn 11 man defence but Gideon Oppong just failed to reach a White cross and moments later White himself was just wide with a header. With 22 mins on the clock Filipe Mederios in the home goal tipped over a long range shot which turned out to be Letchworth’s only effort on target in the first half. After 29 mins Oppong was replaced by Brodie Allibone a product of the U18s making his First team debut and 6 minutes later the home side finally broke the deadlock, when Justin Mensah was hauled down as he broke into the penalty area and Captain FRANCIS BOATENG made no mistake from the penalty spot.
HALF TIME MOULTON 1 LETCHWORTH GARDEN CITY 0
White had a chance early on when clean through but a covering defender and goalkeeper managed to block his effort, and despite being a goal down the visitors showed no appetite for adventure. Moulton utilised the subs bench at regular intervals but couldn’t make any headway and the only real chance fell in the last minute when Allibone went on a mazy run from the right but saw his fierce goal bound shot beaten away by the keeper. Despite not firing on all cylinders the Magpies were never really troubled by the visitors and were happy with the 3 points, in front of a record home crowd who were vociferous for the whole 90 minutes.
