Moulton v Sileby Rangers - 16 March 2024

Lge (H)
Won 3-1
(H/T 1-0)
Moulton entertained local rivals Sileby Rangers in a top of the table clash with both sides needing the points in their quest for the play offs. The Magpies caught the visitor’s cold within 30 seconds of the start when Andy Hall broke up play in midfield and fed Nat Ansu he in turn put Luca Iaciofano in on the right and his cross was converted by LEWIS ISOM. The home side continued to press and Isom crossed for Ansu but the keeper saved with his feet and then Iaciofano set up Ansu again but he shot wide when in a great position. Sileby’s first effort was a header over from a corner but Moulton continued to dominate and Hall had the next attempt shooting just wide from 30 yards. Around the half hour mark the home side had 3 more good chances firstly Iaciofano had a shot saved by the keeper and Dan White saw his follow up shot blocked then Iaciofano flicked a shot just wide from an Isom corner and then Ansu again was just wide with another attempt. Just before the half time Ansu had another 2 chances both saved by the keeper, and as the teams trouped off for the break the crowd were left wondering how it was still only 1-0.
HALF TIME MOULTON 1 SILEBY RANGERS 0
The Magpies continued their domination after the braek and White had the first chance of the second half shooting wide from 25 yards, and with 57 mins on the clock some superb football should have been rewarded with a second goal, Cole Mason crossed from the right after a 1-2 with Iaciofano, and his cross found Isom , who in turn rolled it back for Hall, he danced into the box past a couple of defenders but saw his goal-bound shot smothered by the keeper. Not long after Isom shot wide as the chances continued to mount but as so often happens against the run of play the visitors grabbed an un-deserved equaliser after 67 minutes. As the ball pinged around in the Moulton box some heroic defending by Ben Jackson and Josh Melling amongst others blocked goal bound shots but the ball eventually fell to Lewis Taylor who found the roof of the net. The home side were straight back on the offensive and 2 minutes later re took the lead with a candidate for goal of the season JUSTIN MENSAH picked up the ball 25 yards out and drove into the area leaving at least 3 or 4 defenders trailing in his wake before flicking the ball past the advancing keeper into the net (described later by one supporter as Maradonna esc of 1986 vintage ) Sileby were shocked by the quick response and were stunned 3 minutes later when the Magpies scored again, ANSU finally finding the far corner after being set up by Hall. This knocked the stuffing out of the visitors and Moulton saw the game out with little trouble in what was one, if not the best performance of the season.
