Moulton v Long Buckby - 5 March 2024

Lge (H)
Won 3-2
(H/T 2-1)
Moulton welcomed Long Buckby to Brunting Rd hoping to improve on Saturday’s dour 0-0 draw against Rothwell Corinthians. Manager Gary Petts brought in 2 teenagers Brodie Alibone and Joel Machakaire with Luca Iaciofano returning following a 3 match suspension, but missing were skipper Andy Hall and Josh Adams. Magpies top scorer Nat Ansu had the first chance but shot over from distance and the visitors replied with 2 shots so high the cleared everything and ended up in the Fuller Rd gardens. However with 27 mins gone Buckby took the lead when a shot hit the post and rebounded out and was returned with Filipe Mederios just unable to keep it out. Moulton replied and a free kick from Josh Melling found Machakaire on the left and from his cross Iaciofano was flagged offside , but 34 mins on the clock the home side did equalise , Iaciofano slid in Ansu on the right hand side of the box and his cross was converted by LEWIS ISOM. The Magpies deservedly took the lead 3 minutes before the break when Ansu played a 1-2 with Dan White before crossing again this time to IACIOFANO who beat the keeper from 10 yards.
HALF TIME MOULTON 2 LONG BUCKBY 1
Moulton started the second half on top and had two good chances in first 15 minutes first when Isom crashed a header against the crossbar from an Iaciofano cross and then Justin Mensah cut in from the left but his shot whistled just past a post. The visitors relied heavily on a long ball game and did have the ball in the net after 68 minutes but a linesman’s flag ruled it out. Minutes later came what could have been a turning point in the game, Iaciofano broke into the box and was crudely floored, the referee, to all eyes pointed to the spot but then a melee ensued with Iaciofano not for the first time this season taking a cheap shot whilst prone on the ground, not spotted it appears by either official close by, and when order was restored only a free kick was awarded and a yellow card brandished for the original foul , Isom hit the wall with the kick and the ball was cleared. To add insult to injury Buckby not for the first time in the match lumped a ball forward 5 minutes later which dropped between Ben Jackson and Mederios and a forward finished to draw the team’s level. The Magpies finished the game on top and had a couple of half chances but it looked like another frustrating stalemate until deep into injury time when ANSU burst clear on the left had side of the box and finished with aplomb past the advancing keeper (see pic above) to clinch a deserved 3 points.
