Moulton FC were on the road again when they visited Irchester United current league leaders of Spartan South Midlands Division 1. Manager Gary Petts was forced into 2 changes with Josh Durrant and Keiran Ashman coming in for Ben Fulthorpe and Ben Jackson and there was a familiar face on the subs bench with crowd favourite Derek Okoye wearing the Black and White once again having returned to the club over the weekend. Irchester were first to show and Jonny Vallance in the Magpies goal had to be on his toes to save a long range effort early on and the home side also hit the post also from distance as they dominated proceedings. The visitors had little to show going forward, that is until the 18th minute when Luca Iaciofano and Andy Hall set up top scorer NAT ANSU and he finished well to give Moulton a surprised lead. The Romans kept plugging away but couldn’t break down a resolute Magpies defence and were caught again after 37 mins when Hall and Pierre N’Golo freed ANSU for his second goal of the game and the home crowd were left stunned by a third Moulton goal only 7 minutes later Hall orchestrating the midfield laid the ball into the path of NGOLO and he finished with a great left foot shot on the run. As the half neared its end Ashman was poleaxed by a poor challenge which lead to 6 minutes of injury time and during that period the home side created their best chance of the match so far when the ball was cut back to the edge of the box, however the eventual shot was blazed over.
HALF TIME - IRCHESTER 0 MOULTON 3
Nzube Nwosu replaced Dan Mortimer at half time for his league debut and within a couple of minutes Ansu wriggled free and rounded the keeper 40 yards out but the ball ran away from him and the chance was lost. The visitors were having their best spell so far and increased their lead after 52 minutes, Hall fired in a free kick from the right which was handled by an Irchester defender and ANSU stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot. The Romans to their credit kept plugging away and were rewarded on 66 minutes when Kobi Bivens converted at the back post. Nwosu was being given a torrid time by the Irchester right winger was replaced by Jack Barnett after 72 minutes and a couple of minutes later Vallance made a brilliant save as the home side continued to press. Moulton did have one more chance when after a long throw by Ashman, Iaciofano nearly caught out the home keeper with an overhead kick. Lewis Isom replaced N’Golo and with 8 minutes left the home side grabbed another goal, Bivens again cutting inside before finding the bottom corner from 20 yards. Okoye replaced Ansu near the end and managed to get himself carded for time wasting, one of 8 bookings in a match where there was hardly a bad challenge all night.
