Fresh from 3 wins in a week and then a weekend off Moulton FC travelled to promotion rivals Eaton Socon with a full squad to choose from, a rarity at this time of the season. Both sides forced corners early on but nothing came of them and the first real chance fell to the Magpies when Nat Ansu got clear inside the box but the home keeper smothered his shot, but within a minute they took the lead. Ansu found LEWIS ISOM with a cross field pass and the wide man hit a swerving shot into the top corner from 15yards. Moulton were well in control and Derek Okoye shot over from an angle after being set up by Andy Hall as they strove for a second goal. Eaton Socon were handed a lifeline however with 20 minutes on the clock when keeper Jonny Vallance spilled a left wing corner leaving an easy tap in. This spurred on the home side and they enjoyed a purple patch and Vallance went full length to push a shot around the post and then made a double save firstly tipping a shot on to the bar before saving the follow up shot with his feet.
HALF TIME EATON SOCON 1 MOULTON 1
With the half time tea still hot Moulton re took the lead when a home defender lost the ball ANSU pounced and beat the advancing keeper with ease. On a difficult surface neither team created any worthwhile chances but with 20 minutes left the home side equalised again. The Magpies conceded a cheap free kick 20 yards out and the resulting free-kick beat Vallance and nestled in the corner, and remarkably 3 minutes later the hosts went in front when an innocuous looking cross wasn’t dealt with and the ball bobbled into the visitors net. Luca Iaciofano replaced Derek Okoye straight after in an attempt to salvage something from the game and the last 15 minutes or so it was all Moulton. They were camped in the Eaton half forcing a succession of corners and just on 90 minutes should have drawn level, Ansu wriggled clear in the box but didn’t get any purchase on his shot and it went straight at the home keeper.
