Fresh from Tuesdays win over Bugbrooke, Newport Pagnell were the latest team to visit Brunting Rd. The Magpies were without top scorer Nat Ansu with Nathan Amaning taking the no 9 shirt. The game started and then stopped within 20 seconds as Dan White felt the force of a rough challenge and needed treatment for a foot injury. White was instrumental in Moulton’s first chance on 9 minutes flicking on to Shad Reza but his shot was blocked, and then the home side had a really good chance to take the lead 10 minutes later. Amaning and Lewis Isom pressed a couple of Swans defenders and Isom robbed one and moved in on goal but instead of shooting he tried to play in his strike partner and the ball was lost. The home side continued to press and Reza forced a fingertip save from visiting keeper Oliver Steinke and with Newport giving away a number of free kicks away in dangerous areas it was only a matter of time before Moulton took advantage, a free kick from REZA 25 yards out crashed against the post but rebounded back off Steinke and into the net. Unfortunately for the home side the lead was short lived and a decent move by the Swans ended with Lynham Harrison setting up Jake Watkinson and he slotted past Adam North in the home goal to level the scores, and as the game opened up the Magpies had a golden chance to go in front again with 7 minutes of the half left. Isom’s right wing corner was partially cleared to Adam Dicks he returned it to him and a great cross to the far post was met by Brett Solkhon but he could only find the side netting with his header.
HALF TIME MOULTON 1 NEWPORT PAGNELL 1
The second half started fairly even but a great piece of skill by Isom deserved a second goal , with the Pagnell defence playing a high line he dinked the ball over the fullback and was clear on goal sadly he shot wide from an angle with only the keeper to beat. 15 minutes into the half Amaning was replaced by Aaron Carmichael for his first team debut and a minute later the Swans thought they had taken the lead through Watkinson but the ball was adjudged to have gone out for a goal kick before the cross came in. It was Moulton’s turn to press and Andy Hall found REZA out on the right, he cut inside before being brought down just inside the box and he calmly slotted away the penalty kick to restore his sides lead. Substitute Carmichael was having more than an influence and when he flicked on a ball from Hall, Reza was just on his heels and was beaten to the ball by Steinke, and not long after he set up Reza again but the shot went wide. The visitors had one more chance when danger man Watkinson lifted a shot just over before the Magpies created 2 more decent chances first Carmichael got in on the right hand side of the box but scuffed his shot and then he was involved with Isom to release sub Ed Odley but his shot was beaten away by Steinke. Although the score line was tight as of Tuesday, Moulton create enough chances to win the game comfortably but word must be mentioned of 2 players who had great games White who was a dominant force in midfield and Luke Stevens who won everything at the back and is forming a formidable partnership with Solkhon in the centre of defence.
