Match report v Atherstone Town

Lge (A)
Lost 0-3
(H/T 0-1)
Moulton FC latest travels saw them visiting Atherstone Town for the very first time and the line up showed 1 change from last week’s draw at Newport Pagnell with Matty Long replacing the injured Nathan Amaning.

The KO was delayed for approximately 15 minutes as the original match Referee broke down on route and a replacement was found but had to travel from Daventry.

Adam North in the visitor’s goal was in action on 3 occasions in the first 15 minutes as the Adders made the early running and Moulton’s first shot in anger was a wild affair from Damian Osoimoejiokhian which cleared the boundary fence behind the home goal. Atherstone had the ball in the net after 24 minutes but it was disallowed for offside but deservedly took the lead after 31 minutes, Lewis Collins laid the ball into the path of Chris Cowley and his left foot shot across goal found the far corner, and they had another gilt edged chance soon after but the shot flew over from close range. Both sides were struggling to play any football on a boggy surface and the Magpies’ first shot on target came after 40 minutes when a corner was cleared to Long and his shot from 25 yards saw Lewis Gwilliams turn it around the post

HALF TIME ATHERSTONE TOWN 1 MOULTON 0

With only 6 minutes of the second half gone Osoimoejiokhian went down injured and was replaced by Jude Goodacre who was straight into the action with a cross from the left, but Ed Odley’s week header was easily saved. With 58 minutes gone Atherstone increased their lead, Collins who had been a thorn in the Magpies defence all afternoon escaped his marker and rounded North to make it 2-0. Justin Mensah and Terry Falcini entered the fray but could do little to inspire a lacklustre Moulton side and the Adders killed off the game with 15 minutes left when North could only parry a corner out to Harry Walker-Donovan who fired the ball in from 15 yards. The Visitors could have grabbed a consolation in the dying minutes when Lewis Isom chipped a ball into the box, Adam Dicks got to it and crossed into the 6-yard box but neither Nathan Burrows or Falcini anticipated it and the chance was lost.

A bad day at the office for Moulton in trying conditions which the home side adapted to far better than the Magpies did.
