Lge (H)
Won 3-1
(H/T 3-1)
Following on from Wednesday’s win at Easington Sports Moulton returned to Brunting Rd where Coventry Utd were the visitors. Once again the Magpies were straight into their stride and took a 3rd minute lead, Damian Osoimoejikhian overlapped Lewis Isom on the left and from the cross MATTY LONG grabbed his 4th goal in 3 games, sadly the advantage didn’t last long, it appeared that Ed Odley was fouled in the centre of the field but the referee waved play on and the through ball found Ryan Harkin who beat Adam North from just outside the box. The game was fairly even, Adam Dicks scuffed a shot wide after being set up by Isom and at the other end Charlie Shaw forced a good save from North, however on 21 minutes the home side re took the lead, Isom’s free-kick out on the left was only partially cleared to DAN WHITE who did really well to steer a high bouncing ball into the far corner. This was the catalyst for Moulton to start to dominate and great work by Dicks, and Long set up Ed Odley but he saw his goal-bound shot blocked, and with 33 minutes gone the Magpies went further ahead, a long free kick into the Coventry box was only half cleared ,Luke Stevens hooked it back in Long challenged and as the ball broke to Osoimoejikhian he was brought down, FRANCIS BOATENG stepped up and fired the penalty high into the net. Sadly this was virtually the last contribution by Osoimoejikhian as minutes later he nicked the ball off a Coventry player and was crudely taken out (the stud marks were clearly visible on his ankle) remarkably the referee didn’t even award a free kick, to all close enough it looked like a straight red card, and after a minute or two he left the field and was replaced by Jude Goodacre.
HALF TIME MOULTON 3 COVENTRY UTD 1
Moulton continued to pressurise Coventry at every opportunity and allowed them little time on the ball and at the same time were creating chances for themselves, Dicks set up Nathan Amaning who saw his shot saved by visiting keeper Dan Moore and then Dicks and White combined, but Isom fired over from 18 yards. Move of the match midway through the half involved some quick exchanges between several players culminating in Dicks having his shot blocked with the resulting corner being cleared. The visitors were struggling to stem the tide and brilliant back heel by Long got Amaning clear in the box but again Moore saved, this time with his legs. The domination continued and following a poor clearance by Moore, Dicks tried his luck from 40 yard, but his shot just cleared the crossbar and soon after Long also tried from around the same distance and his attempt hit the angle of post and bar with Moore well beaten, the second time this has happened in recent games. Long and Amaning who had both put in a real shift were replaced by Okoye and Reza near the end and although the visitors had hardly threatened North’s goal in the second half Boateng made a brilliant block in injury time to stop a decent effort. A terrific all-round performance by the whole team, everyone worked hard for 90 minutes and were well worthy of the 3 points
