Moving on from their defeat on Tuesday, Moulton travel the 38 miles over to Leicester on Saturday where they take on G.N.G. Oadby Town (KO 3:00).
The exact year of formation of ‘The Poachers’ is unsure but it is believed to be either 1937 or 1939 under the guise of Oadby Imperial. In 1951 Oadby Imperial changed their name to become Oadby Town FC. In the same year they won the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two Championship and were promoted to Division One (later Division One became the Premier League and Division Two became Division One).In recent years Oadby Town moved across to the United Counties League Division One (Step 6) for the 2012–13 season, which they won as champions and were promoted into the United Counties Premier Division South (Step 5). In August 2020, the club was renamed GNG Oadby Town to recognise the contribution of former GNG players and Oadby residents in saving the club from financial difficulties in 2018. Last season saw them end up one from bottom in the league (18th) with 27 points from their 36 games (Won 8; Drew 3; Lost 25).
This season sees them one of bottom again with 12 points from their 19 games (3 wins; 3 draws; 13 defeats). Their last five league games has seen them draw 2 v Yaxley (H) 4-4 and away on Tuesday v Sileby Rangers 2-2, but lose 3 v Atherstone (H) 1-3, Newport Pagnell (A) 0-5 and Lutterworth (A) 0-1. Their 3 wins to date have come against Eynesbury Rovers (H) 4-3; Leicester Nirvana (H) 3-1 (both in October) and March Town (A) 2-1 (in September).
Last weekend they progressed in the FA Vase 3rd Round Proper with a 3-1 win at home to Nuneaton Town, this was after getting a reprieve from being knocked out in the previous round v Clay Cross Town1-6. However, Clay Cross Town had played an ineligible player and were disqualified passing the game over to G.N.G. Oadby Town. They also progressed into the next round of the Leicester & Rutland Challenge Cup in October with a 2-1 home win v Melton Town. They were knocked out of the UCL League Cup in the 1st round v Retford (A) 0-1 which was also the case back in August when they were knocked out of the FA Cup at home v Newark & Sherwood United 1-4.
On the opening day of the season we entertained G.N.G. Oadby at Brunting Road, in our 1st game in the UCL, running out 2-1 winners, goals from Nat Ansu and Matty Long.
Saturday’s referee is scheduled as Guy Thrower, a new name to officiate a Moulton game.
