Match Report v Yaxley

Lge (H)
Won 3-1
(H/T 0-1)
Moulton welcomed Yaxley to Brunting Rd for the last game of 2025 hoping to avenge a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture back in September.

The Magpies made 5 changes from the win at Aylestone Park last week with Terry Falcini, Nathan Amaning and Justin Mensah replacing Lewis Isom, Louis Kelly and Matty Long, Ed Odley was also in for Dan White who was un-well and Joel Machakaire replaced the suspended Damian Osoimeijokhian.

The home side were on the front foot early on and the first real chance came after 11 minutes when a long clearance from Adam North was controlled by Adam Dicks, and he set up Nathan Burrows but his shot was saved and not long after Burrows flicked on a left-wing cross to Amaning but his shot flew past the far post. Yaxley did have a half chance but North blocked the shot and then smothered the rebound however Moulton continued to dominate, and the next chance was set up by Francis Boateng who put Amaning clear on the right but visiting keeper Max Rigby kept his effort out. A great move involving Boateng, Dicks and Amaning set up Falcini but he couldn’t get the ball under control at the far post and a minute later the winger got away on the left, but his cross was blocked with players waiting in the 6-yard box. Yaxley who had rode their luck for the first 35 minutes suddenly began to look a threat and hit the underside of the crossbar before taking a surprise lead with 3 minutes of the half left through Louis Cowie, the home side responded but Luke Stevens was well over with a header from an Andy Hall free kick.

HALF TIME MOULTON 0 YAXLEY 1

The second half started with the Cuckoos having 2 decent chances in the first 5 minutes but after that Moulton again took control but with no real quality in the final 3rd. Manager Gary Petts made a couple of changes after 57 minutes with Lewis Isom and Matty Long replacing Falcini and Amaning and it paid dividends within a couple of minutes. Isom swung over a corner from the right and the ball was headed into his own net by Jay Chilvers to level the scores, and within 6 minutes the Magpies took the lead, and again Isom was the creator with a ball into Burrows on the edge of the box, he turned and shot and when Rigby beat out his effort JUSTIN MENSAH followed up to put his team in front. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors although there was a downer for the home side when Long limped off with an injury after only being on for 10 minutes, with Shad Reza his replacement. With 20 minutes left the crowd were treated to a bit of vintage from the evergreen Hall when he strode forward from the halfway line and powered in a shot from fully 35 yards that cannoned back off the angle of post and crossbar, and not long after Isom and Burrows set up Odley but Rigby got down low to save. The game was put to bed by Moulton with 14 minutes left when Hall’s free kick found LUKE STEVENS all alone on the penalty spot and his header flew past the visiting keeper. Reza set up Burrows just after and he saw his shot come back off he crossbar and with 8 minutes left North in the home goal saw his first real bit of action tipping over a shot from the edge of the box following a short corner by the visitors.
