Moulton welcomed Eynesbury Rovers to Brunting Rd for the first home game of 2026.
A bumper crowd were given a pleasant surprise when top scorer Nat Ansu was included in the 16 after being out for 3 months and he took his place on the bench alongside Dan White who was still recovering from illness.
The game started evenly with both sides probing but neither looked particularly threatening that was until the 11th minute when Nathan Burrows killed a long ball from Adam North brilliantly before passing to Lewis Isom, and his cross was converted by NATHAN AMANING from 8 yards to put the Magpies in front.
The visitors were playing some decent stuff but still struggling to cause Moulton any problems in the final 3rd and at the other end were very lucky not to go further behind on 22 minutes. Damian Osoimoejiokhian won a free kick 20 yards out and from the resultant kick Isom beat the defensive wall but visiting keeper James Hoskins got a faint touch on to the post and the ball was cleared.
As the half wore on Eynesbury did start to cause the Magpies some problems with Jordan Brown lobbing an effort wide from the left-hand side of the box, and a minute or so later North misjudged a cross from the right and when a shot came in Francis Boateng headed the goal bound shot off the line.
With 5 minutes left the visitors were denied a goal when a linesman flagged for offside, which was too much for Oliver Brookes and he was sent to the sinbin for 10 minutes for dissent.
HALF TIME MOULTON 1 EYNESBURY ROVERS 0.
Straight from the start of the second half Burrows found himself free 40 yards out after a mistake by a visiting defender but his cross towards Isom on the left was cut out.
What could have been a turning point in the game happened with 60 minutes on the clock, Hoskins racing from his goal 40 yards out mis controlled the bouncing ball and then handled it to stop Isom getting free, after deliberation the referee gave a yellow card but it could easily have been a red, as there were no covering defenders and the Moulton player had a clear sight of goal.
After the commotion had died down Isom took the kick and Burrows saw his effort trickle agonisingly wide of the target, this had clearly rattled the visitors and minutes later after another mix up Amaning found himself free on the edge of the box but completely lost his bearings.
Eynesbury were struggling to cope with continued attacks and Burrows combined with Amaning but his shot was blocked, and both players were involved in what should have been a second goal for the Magpies after 77 minutes. Isom had a shot blocked and when the ball fell invitingly for Burrows his goal bound shot hit Amaning and bounced to safety, however 5 minutes later the home side wrapped up the points. Another pinpoint pass from keeper North was headed on by Ansu (his first touch after replacing Burrows) and ISOM won a footrace with the last defender before lobbing Hoskins from the edge of the penalty area. As the game entered injury time it all got a bit much for visiting forward Victor Oluwadamilola who was booked for dissent and then showed a second yellow and a red for continued protest. A very good performance by the Magpies which keeps them in the play-off places and sets us up nicely for next Saturday when fellow promotion chasers Histon are the visitors.
