
Moulton make the 24 mile journey up to Leicestershire on Tuesday for the re-arranged game against Lutterworth Town in the United Counties Premier South and will be looking to avenge the 2-0 defeat suffered at home when Lutterworth visited in October.
The ‘Swifts’ play at Dunley Way, Lutterworth, Leicestershire. The club were playing in the Lutterworth & District League at the start of the 1920s. They had joined the Leicester & District League by 1923, winning the Division Two title in 1923–24. After World War II the club joined the Rugby Junior League and were champions in 1948–49. They joined the Leicester City League, winning Division Two in 1950–51. Lutterworth joined Division Two of the Leicestershire Senior League in 1955. In 1966–67 they finished second and were promoted to Division One. The club was relegated to Division Two at the end of the 1971–72 season, but were immediately promoted back to Division One as Division Two runners-up. However, the club continued to yo-yo, being relegated in 1974–75, promoted in 1977–78, relegated in 1979–80, promoted in 1980–81 (as Division Two champions), relegated in 1982–83 (at which point Division Two was renamed Division One) and promoted back to the renamed Premier Division in 1985–86. The 1989–90 season saw Lutterworth win the Leicestershire and Rutland Senior Cup. They won the Premier Division title the following season. However, the club were relegated again at the end of the 1994–95 season. Despite only finishing eleventh in 1996–97 they were promoted to the Premier Division. They returned to Division One after finishing bottom of the Premier Division in 1999–2000. In 2015–16 the club finished third in Division One and were promoted to the Premier Division. They went on to win the Premier Division title the following season and were promoted to Division One of the United Counties League. In 2018–19 Lutterworth won Division One of the United Counties League, earning promotion to the Premier Division. When the division was split in 2021 they were placed in the Premier Division South.
Last seasons they finish in 15th place with 35 points from their 36 matches (10 wins; 5 draws; 21 defeats). Prior to our postponed game with them at the end of February Lutterworth were sitting in 7th position with 48 points from their 28 games to date (14 wins; 6 draws; 8 defeats). However they have played a further 3 games since then and have dropped down to 8th position with no wins in those games v Atherstone Town (H) 0-2; Bugbrooke (A) 1-3 & Eynesbury Rovers (H) 0-2 last Saturday (31 played, 14 wins, 6 draws; 11 defeats; Pts 48). Their 5 league games prior to the postponement saw a mixture of 3 wins v Aylestone Park (A) 5-0, v ON Chenecks (H) 4-3 & Easington Sports (A) 4-3; 1 draw v Nuneaton (H) 0-0 and 1 defeat v Eynesbury Rovers (A) 0-2. Their other 7 defeats coming against March (A), Newport Pagnell (H), Aylestone Park (H), ON Chenecks (A), Godmanchester Rovers (A), Yaxley (A) and Hinckley (H).
In the cup competitions they were knocked out of the UCL Cup v Eastwood (A) 1-2 in November; the Leicester & Rutland Cup v Loughborough Students 0-3 in December & the FA Vase v Heather St Johns (H) 0-2 in October. In the FA Cup they went out in the Preliminary Rd v Chasetown at home 0-1.
Tuesday's referee is scheduled as Adam Crosby-Smith who officiated two games involving Moulton in January, the home defeat v Histon (1-3) and the away defeat v Atherstone Town (0-3).
