Match Report v March Town United

Lge (H)
Drew 1-1
(H/T 1-1)
Plenty to play for as Moulton FC faced 2nd place March Town Utd in the UCL Premier South Division with the visitors on the back of 6 straight wins having the chance to go top of the league with another 3 points.

The Magpies showed 3 changes from Saturdays win at Hinckley with Ed Odley returning after a 1 match suspension, Terry Falcini replacing Shad Reza and Josh Melling in for the un-available Francis Boateng.

The Magpies had the first chance when Odley saw a shot blocked and then Falcini had a shot deflected wide after good work from Odley and Justin Mensah.

Against the run of play however the Hares took the lead after 11 minutes, breaking quickly down the right and when the low cross came in Rio Henson finished from close range. Almost immediately an identical break this time down the left but this time there was no one on hand and the chance went begging. The game was being played at a terrific pace and when Adam Dicks set up Matty Long he brought the ball down brilliantly, but the shot went wide and not long after Dicks, Long, and Lewis Isom set up Falcini but he couldn’t generate any power in the shot. Despite being a goal up the visitors were under sustained pressure towards the end of the half and from a Long corner, Damian Osoimoejikhian had a header cleared off the line and then following a great run deep into March territory by central defender Luke Stevens, Falcini hit the inside of the post. Adam North made his first real save after 42 minutes but the scores were deservedly level as we entered first half injury time when a cross from Dicks was headed clear, but only to ODLEY 20 yards out and his first time effort flew into the net giving visiting keeper Jonah Gill no chance.

HALF TIME MOULTON 1 MARCH TOWN UTD 1

Moulton kept up the pressure at the start of the second half and Falcini had a good chance in the first minute after being set up by Long 15 yards out, but he couldn’t get the ball under control, and the chance was lost. Stevens got too much on a near post header from a Long corner and then Isom forced Gill into a decent save from a 30-yard free kick. As the half went on chances became rarer for both sides although March did have a free-kick flash across goal but fortunately for the Magpies there were no takers, and Moulton’s last chance fell to Dan White but his header from a long kick from North went wide of the post. On balance of play and chances Moulton shaded the game and probably deserved the 3 points but overall, it was another solid performance against the form team in the division.
