Daventry Town were established in 1886 and have had a chequered history over their 139 years, from a devastating fire in 2005 which threatened the club’s existence to an incredible cup run which saw over 700 fans travel to League 2 Chesterfield in 2014.  The ‘Purple Army/The Town’, commenced playing in the Northampton Town League before switching to the Northants Combination in 1987, under the guidance of Manager Willie Barrett, the clubs fortunes began to flourish, Barrett leading the club to successive championships in the Northants Combination First and Premier Divisions and in 1989/90 they secured promotion to the United Counties League Division One. Since joining the United Counties League, they have won promotion to the Premier Division on three occasions, but have also been relegated twice. The club were threatened with extinction in 2005–06, when the Elderstubbs clubhouse and changing rooms were destroyed by fire. However, a sponsorship deal with a mobile phone company enabled the club to survive. In the 2009–10 season Daventry won promotion to the Southern League Division One Central, by becoming champions of the United Counties League. In May 2016, Daventry Town resigned from the Northern Premier League due to financial problems and were later placed in the United Counties League Division One for the 2016–17 season. Season 2018–19 saw the club achieve the double by winning the UCL Premier Division and the UCL Knock Out Cup. In 2019–20, the club returned to the Southern League, however, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that they would not complete this or the 2020–21 season. In 2021–22, the club moved to the Northern Premier League Midlands Division ending the season in 16th place but 15 points clear of the relegation spots. Off the pitch, the club announced that it had cleared all inherited debts since taking over in 2016 and that the club was now debt free. The 2022-23 season was challenging for Daventry.  A slow start in the tough Northern Premier League led to the budget being cut and manager Arron Parkinson left after 6 seasons. Almost all the players left leaving a scratch side of reserves and youth team to unsuccessfully avoid relegation from the Northern Premier League. Daren Young was appointed first team manager at the start of the 2023/24 season. Following an inconsistent start to the season, the club only won two matches in 2024, Young left the club by mutual agreement. Jamie Forrest was appointed as First Team Manger prior to the 2024-25 season where the club would compete again in the UCL Premier Division South.

Last season Daventry Town ended up in 8th league position with 58 pts from their 36 games (16 won; 10 draws; 10 defeats).

Prior to our home game with them back in August, which we won 3-2 (Scorers: Amaning, Isom and a 93rd min winner from Ansu), they occupied 2nd position in the league having won all 4 league games v Hinckley (H) 6-0; v Sileby (A) 2-0; v Newport Pagnell (H) 2-1; v Bugbrooke St Michael’s ( H) 3-1. Since then Daventry’s form has dropped and they now occupy 15th place with 31 pts from their 28 games (9 wins; 4 draws; 15 defeats).
