Moulton FC headed for Cambridgeshire for their last away league game of the season with a first ever visit to Godmanchester and with several players un-available there was a welcome return for Joel Machakaire at centre back. On an indifferent surface the Magpies started the better of the sides and there was an early penalty shout when Matty Long seemed to have been fouled but the referee waved away the protests and they should have taken the lead after 10 minutes when a wicked free kick whipped in at pace by Lewis Isom was completely missed by Tyson Aluko with the goal at his mercy. The parity however was short lived, Andy Hall found Isom out on the left and he rolled the ball into the left hand channel for LONG who held off a defender before slipping it past Max Rigby in the home goal.
Things went from bad to worse for the home side 3 minutes later, a throw deep in the Godmanchester half by Damian Osoimoejiokhian was cleared straight back to him and his resultant cross into the box was controlled and then finished by NATHAN AMANING to give the visitors a 2-goal cushion.
Moulton continued to dominate and it was not until the 30th minute that the home side threatened, a cross to the far post was headed goalwards by Scott Callaghan but Adam North made some ground to his left and brilliantly clawed the ball away to safety. The visitors were still having the lions share of the ball and when Hall found Isom out on the left his cross shot was saved by Rigby and from the corner there was a bout of ping pong in the Godmanchester box but no one in stripes could get a telling touch.
HALF TIME GODMANCHESTER 0 MOULTON 2
The second half started just as the first and Matty Long was bundled over in the box again but still no penalty, but on 53 minutes the Magpies killed off the game. Long controlled a pass from Hall and found Adam Dicks out on the right and he slipped in Amaning, who made ground before crossing to the far post where ISOM arrived right on cue and volleyed the ball into the roof of the net.
There was little or no threat from the home side and Moulton continued to create chances and when Isom tried to chip Rigby in the home goal, the keeper got fingertips to it, and then Isom’s cross into the box was inches away from being converted by both Long and Dan White. Isom who seemed to be involved in most of the threat then saw an effort miss the target after a long clearance by North and then Dicks burst into the box and both Isom and Ed Odley had shots blocked.
Godmanchester did register a shot on goal with 7 minutes left but by then they were well beaten by a slick and dominant Magpies who with this win confirmed their place as the top Northamptonshire club in Step 5 of the Non-League Pyramid.
