Match Report v Desborough Town

Lge (H)
Lost 0-1
(H/T 0-1)
Moulton’s poor start to the season continued as they went down 1-0 to Desborough Town at Brunting Rd. The Magpies were without Terry Falcini who picked up an ankle injury in last week’s FA Cup tie at Sherwood Colliery but included new signing Renato Prifti in the 16.

Not for the first time this season the home side took the initiative and a move involving Tyson Aluko and Adam Dicks resulted in Lachi Codrington having a shot blocked. The visitors had the ball in the net after 6 minutes, but Iain Blakie was adjudged to have deliberately handled and as a result was booked in the process. Another yellow card followed shortly when Aiden Bradshaw took out Francis Boateng with an agricultural challenge, and from the resulting free kick Dan White headed across goal but Aluko couldn’t keep his effort down and it sailed over the bar. With 23 minutes on the clock Desborough took the lead, a long throw deep inside the Magpies half was headed on and Blakie was first to the ball and bundled it over the line. Moulton responded and Lewis Isom had a free kick from 30 yards easily dealt with by visiting keeper Adam Honour. Justin Mensah picked up an injury with 10 minutes of the half left and he was replaced by Prifti, and the Magpies finished the half on top, Codrington tested Honour again and Boateng saw a long-range shot go over.
HALF TIME
MOULTON 0 DESBOROUGH TOWN 1
Codrington was the main threat for the home side and a crossfield run ended with a effort being blocked and from the rebound Prifti was just over with a shot from the edge of the box and at the other end Adam North pulled off a brilliant stop to keep the score at 1-0. The mid part of the half saw both sides huffing and puffing with no real chances created and at times become quite niggly with a game of “handbags” breaking out at one point after a poor challenge on White by a visiting defender. With a number of tactical changes made the Magpies pushed forward looking for an equaliser, first Nat Ansu burst through but Honour beat away his shot and was quickly up to pounce on the loose ball as Prifti closed in and then right at the death a good move down the left saw Isom cross into the box and Ansu had a shot cleared off the line, and from the resulting corner the ball struck the post, not sure if it was defender or forward who got the final touch.
