Moulton Football Club

‘Goddy’ are based just outside Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire and their away kit is red shirts, black shorts and socks. Established in 1911, the club won the Hunts Junior Cup. They played in the Huntingdonshire League for many years before joining the Cambridgeshire League. They won the Hunts Junior Cup again in 1988–89, and in 1992 were promoted to the top division of the Cambridgeshire League. In 1994–95 they won the League Cup, retaining it for the next two seasons. However, they were relegated to the Senior Division in 2000. With the club about to move into a new ground, they made a speculative application to join the Eastern Counties League in 2002. Despite being in the second tier of the Cambridgeshire League, the club were successful. They finished bottom of the division in 2004–05, but were not relegated as the league was understrength in terms of numbers. In 2011–12 the club won Division One on goal difference to earn promotion to the Premier Division, and also won the Division One Knock-out Cup, defeating Whitton United 1–0 in the final. In 2014–15 the club finished as runners-up in the Premier Division and won the Hunts Senior Cup. The 2015–16 they were Premier Division runners-up for a second successive season. In 2018–19 Godmanchester won Hunts Senior Cup for a second time, beating St Neots Town 6–0 in the final, and the Hinchingbrooke Cup, defeating Pinchbeck United 4–2 on penalties after a 3–3 draw. At the end of the 2020–21 season the club were transferred to the Premier Division South of the United Counties League. In 2022–23 they won the Hinchingbrooke Cup for a second time, beating Stotfold 1–0 in the final. In season 2024-25 they ended up in 19th place and were relegated from the United Counties League Premier Division South. However, they were given a reprieve and allowed to remain in the UCL when Rugby Town were themselves given a reprieve after being allowed to remain in the NPL Midlands after they were initially relegated. Last season saw them in up in 15th position with 46pts from their 38 games (Won 12; Drew 10; Lost 16). The two games between the clubs last season ended in a 1-1 draw ay home in August (Scorer- Dan White) and an away win 3-0 in April (Scorers-Nat Amaning, Lewis Isom & Matty Long).

This season they currently occupy 10th position in the league with 9 points from their 5 games (Wins 3; Draws 0; Defeats 2). Their two defeats came in their first two games v Lutterworth (0-4) and St Neots (0-2), both at home. The next 3 games saw them come out on top v Eynesbury Rovers at home (3-1); FC Peterborough (2-1) away and finally Atherstone Town (2-0) at home. Prior to our game they play Desborough Town at home on Sat 12 Sept (Update - Godmanchester won 2-0). In the cup competitions they exited both the FA Cup and FA Vase in August v Newmarket Town (0-1) at home and Ely City (0-5) away respectively. However, in the UCL KO Cup they won 3-1 v Hucknall Town at home at the end of August.

Tuesday’s referee is scheduled as James Cantwell, another new name to officiate a Moulton fixture.
