Moulton FC were back at Brunting in the league after Saturdays FA Vase win at New Bradwell when Godmanchester Rovers were the visitors.

Gary Petts included Mo Khan recently returned from the Asian Cup Under 20 qualifiers in the starting lineup with young Kian Brown on the bench for the first time as substitute.

The visitors had the first effort on goal but a header from a corner sailed wide. Moulton grew into the game, and their first chance fell to Lewis Isom but his free kick from 20 yards was straight at Goddy keeper Jack Mason. The Magpies began to dominate and 3 times went close to scoring firstly Terry Falcini did some great work but then blazed over then shortly after Francis Boateng pulled the ball back to Lewis Fisher but his shot flew across the face of the goal and then Kobi Bivens crossed from the right but neither Falcini nor Khan could get a final touch in the six-yard box. Finally, the pressure told in the 25th minute, Luke Stevens released Damian Osoimoejiokhian down the left and he advanced before crossing into the box where BIVENS met it on the volley from close range to give his side the lead, and the second goal wasn’t long coming. Osoimoejiokhian and Falcini combined on the left and from the latter’s cross KHAN stole in behind his marker and steered the ball just inside the far post.

The home side were in complete control now and after good work by Khan, Bivens retrieved his cross on the far side of the box before firing a shot that smashed against the cross bar.

Khan had the first chance of the second half but shot straight at Mason from the edge of the box but within 10 minutes Moulton put the game to bed. Dante Grey played the ball up to Bivens halfway inside the Goddy half, he laid it off to Isom, who played it back to Bivens and his return pass completely sliced open the visitor’s defence and ISOM strode on and rolled the chance inside the far post. Falcini had two decent chances, one that flew over and one that Mason saved with his feet and at the other end Adam North who had been a virtual spectator for most of the game was forced to make a sharp save to keep his goal intact.

Right at the death sub-Renato Prifti curled a wicked dipping shot from the edge of the box that Mason brilliantly tipped over, remarkably giving Moulton their first corner of the game. After an indifferent start to the season this was a 5-star performance by the whole squad with the free-flowing football a pleasure to watch.
