Yaxley Football Club is a football club based in Yaxley, Cambridgeshire. Their away kit is all orange.‘The Cuckoos’ were established in 1962 and joined Division Three South of the Peterborough & District League, before being renamed Yaxley British Legion a year later. In 1972 they dropped British Legion from their name. The club played at Middleton Road (a public Park with no stands) until 1994 when they relocated to their present ground, Leading Drove, where a stand and floodlights were installed in the summer of 1995. In 2011 an artificial pitch was installed. In 1994 the Huntingdonshire League merged with the East Northants League to form the West Anglia League, with Yaxley being its inaugural champions. As West Anglia League champions, and following the move to their new ground, the club were accepted into Division One of the United Counties League for the 1995–96 season. They won the division at the second attempt, and were promoted to the Premier Division. The next few years saw the club win several cups, with the Hunts Senior Cup won in 1998–99, 2003–04, 2004–05 and 2007–08, the Huntingdonshire Premier Cup in 2004–05 and the League Cup in 2005–06 and 2016–17. In 2017–18 Yaxley won the United Counties League Premier Division, earning promotion to Division One Central of the Southern League. At the end of the 2020–21 season they were transferred to Division One Midlands of the Northern Premier League. During the 2022–23 season they appointed Sammy Mould as manager; at the age of 20, he was the youngest football manager ever appointed in English football. However, he was sacked three months later, and the club finished bottom of Division One Midlands with just six points, resulting in relegation to the Premier Division South of the United Counties League. During the 2023/24 season they finished up 7th. The following season (2024/25) saw them end up 4th from bottom (17th) with 34 points from their 36 games (Won 10; Drew 4; Lost 22). Last season they ended up just outside the relegation zone (18th) with 26 points from 38 games (Won 7; Drew 5; Lost 26). Last seasons two games between the clubs ended in a 1-0 home win for Yaxley back in August and a 3-1 home win for Moulton at the end of the year, goals from Justin Mensah, Luke Stevens and an OG having been 1-0 down at half-time.

This season they currently occupy 16th position with 3 points from their 4 games, 4 games behind Moulton’s 8 which is mainly down to them having to replay all of their 3 games in the FA Cup due to draws in the first game (see below). They opened up their league season with a 0-2 home defeat v Sileby Rangers followed by a further 3-4 defeat at home v Coventry Sphinx. Their win came in their 3rd league game at home to Histon 2-1 at the end of August. Last Saturday (15/9) they had their first away game at Eynesbury Rovers which they lost 1-2. On Saturday 19/9 are away at Atherstone Town (Update - Atherstone win 2-0).

As mentioned above, in the FA Cup they progressed into the next round after a 2-0 home win v Thetford, the 1st game having been drawn away 1-1. The next round saw them draw at home 0-0 v Wisbech Town and in the replay won on penalties after a 2-2 score at full-time. In the next round and it was again a 1-1 draw at home v Buckhurst Hill but a 0-3 defeat in the replay away. In the FA Vase they progressed into the next round with a 1-0 win away at Eaton Socon before going down 1-3 at home v Kirkley & Wakefield in the subsequent round. In the United Counties KO Cup they lost at home to Ashby Ivanhoe 0-4.

Saturday’s referee is scheduled as Sam Waterhouse, who has officiated two Moulton home games in the Spartan South Midlands era, in March 2023 v Amersham drew 1-1 and v London Colney in November 2024, won 4-0.
