Cup (A)
Lost 0-7
(H/T 0-2)
Moulton played their first round league cup match against unbeaten Harborough Town.
Moulton started well with lots of territory but not creating much with it, however in the 10th minute, with their first attack, Harborough's full back overlapped, creating space for the winger to feed their striker who finished well from a narrow angle. Moulton responded well and had chances to score through Derrick, who went close a few times only to be denied by keeper and post. Harborough scored their second on the 30th minute with a well a lovely finish from distance from their right winger. Moulton had further chances to score but were ultimately denied and could feel hard done by to find themselves 2-0 down at half time.
Often the 3rd goal wins the game and that came in the 47th minute. Harborough hit the post and reacted quickest to the rebound. A fourth arrived in the 55th with another well worked move and clinical finish. A host of changes from both teams broke up the middle of the half for a short while, until Harborough felt like scoring some more. In the 70th, a midfield runner broke free and found himself threw on the keeper for 5-0. In the 75th they made it 6-0, a header from close ranger from a corner and the final goal 7-0 was a shot from outside of the box that found the corner of the net. Maybe it could have been a different game if Moulton had taken some chances in the first half. With the teams meeting in the league in a few weeks we won't have too long to wait.
