On a sunny but windy afternoon in Corby, the lad’s begin their A league campaign. After a bright start by both teams, Moulton take the lead in the 5th minute. After some nice football down the left-hand side, Samuel sends in a dangerous cross/shot into the Corby penalty area which deceives the goalkeeper and ends up in the back of the net (1 – 0 Moulton). For the next twelve minutes Corby begin to take a grip on the game, which results in an equaliser on 18 minutes (Corby benefit from Moulton not being able to clear their lines). For the reminder of the first-half Moulton battle away to keep the score level (the closest Corby came to taking the lead was in the 21st minute when a goal-bound effort hit the post). All square at half-time.
Moulton begin the second with a bright passage of play between Aidan and Matthew, but Corby get awarded a soft free-kick in the 39th minute and the game changes. From the resulting free-kick Corby take the lead (2 – 1) and in the next twenty minutes of the match Corby take full control. Two more goals are dispatched (one of them was a cracking free-kick). The score-line may have been even more but for two fine saves that Davis produced in the later stages of the game. Unfortunately, with the last kick of the game Corby make it 5 – 1.
It was a baptism of fire today for the lad’s, playing one of the best teams that used to play in the Weetabix Kettering League. I think the lad’s will learn a lot from today, and things do not get any easier when we play Falcon’s Blues (Winners of the A League last year) in the next league fixture. Great effort today lad’s, and be ready to go again next week.
