Away trip to last year’s Division a Runner’s up!
For the first ten minutes of the match Moulton shade the procession and territory stakes, the highlight of this part of the match was some good link-up play between Finley and Aidan on the right-hand side. For the next fifteen minutes of the game both teams fashion free-kick attempts which draws Davis into producing a good save to keep the score-line level. Unfortunately from Wootton’s next free-kick attempt, they score five minutes before half-time. The score remains the same at the half-time whistle.
At start of the second half Wootton win two quick corners, which Moulton defend well. Moulton begin to settle, and in the 46th minute deservedly level the score line. After some really good work down the left-hand side, Josh dispatches the ball into the Wootton net. Five minutes later and Moulton attack again, this time down the right-hand side (Matthew, Samuel and Ciaran combine well). Football is such a cruel game, Moulton win a corner, then Wootton counter-attack and win a corner, which they score from (2 – 1 Wootton). Three minutes later Wootton score again from another corner (3 – 1 Wootton). 63 minutes into the game and Wootton are awarded a penalty to flatter the score-line (4 – 1 Wootton). Moulton still try and look for a consolation goal and three minutes before full-time; after some nice play down the right-hand side, Aidan delivers a good cross into the Wootton penalty area and Matthew’s effort is smartly saved by the Wootton goalkeeper. 4 – 1 at full-time.
Football’s a cruel game, no more demonstrated than today. Wootton score from four set-piece situation’s today, not free flowing football. And at this present moment in time Moulton are being punished unfairly for any footballing mistake.
Next fixture is a cup match against Moulton Magpies Blacks. Just a small matter of a local derby!
